Evaluation Activity Seven ☮ ☮ ☮

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
Compared to our final film, our preliminary task appears very unprofessional and heavily flawed. Our group wanted to add in as many different shot types within the limited amount of time we had. We used match on action, shot reverse shot and followed the rule of 180 degrees. The task was short and sloppy in editing with distorted colour within the majority of shots, showing a high amount of yellow within all shots. This could have been due to the fact that we used the GE1080p hand held camera which wasn’t as a high a quality camera as the Nikon D3000, which we used in our final film. There is a major difference within the quality’s of the lenses within the two camera’s and this gave our film a more professional look by using the Nikon, whereas our preliminary task appeared very amateur and low budget.

Within our final film we were able to add in more shot types that we didn’t get to involve in our preliminary task, such as a long shot, extreme close up, close up , low angle and high angle shots. This was due to the amount of time we had increasing to around 3 minutes, allowing us to extend the gaps between more adventurous shot types, without having the film appear crowded and too much to keep up with. We felt this was extremely effective within our film as we could maintain a professional look with still being able to use the amount of shots we required without having too much of a tacky look.

The mise en scene that we used within the preliminary task wasn’t thought through at all, our group wanting to show an average conversation between two teens wasn’t particularly portrayed correctly as we filmed th scene within college, and so are actress’s were wearing business wear, making the clothing seem out of place for what we were trying to convey. With our final film we were able to plan outfits, with our main antagonist wearing all black and a balaclava, which really conveyed the correct appearance for the characters personality, due to the dark tones creating an evil look. Also with our other characters less thought had to be put in due to the characters ages being teen, we wanted to show a casual look.

Our editing also vastly improved, with soundtrack and sound effects also being used within the final film, this again showed a professional look and also cast a serious tone on the scene due to the thought our group put into the song choice that would be used over the entire film, we wanted perfect drops when something drastic happened and we felt that the song we went with, created this perfectly. At the beginning of our preliminary task we only see footsteps for ten seconds with there only being silence, which was both boring and difficult to set a tone over the scene. Between scenes when we wanted to show a difference in time we were also able to dim in transitions which we didn’t do within the preliminary tasking ,showing a very sharp and drastic cut, which again appeared very sloppy and unprofessional.

Overall our group has heavily improved over the AS year with our filming and editing techniques, which really has given our final film a great professional look. Our group has achieved a new set of skills that we really come in useful when we continue next year into filming a trailer, which we will also pursue into things that we didn’t use in the final film that we used this year.

What Have You Learnt From The Technologies From The Process Of Constructing This Product ?
Though the technological side of our film had a minimal amount, there was still a vast impact on our final film through the chosen areas that we concentrated on. The main potential issue we wanted to address was the camera of which we would use for the filming, luckily a member of our group owns a high quality camera, Nikon D3000, which we used to cover the full amount of filming, not using a second camera. The camera is of a very prestige make and looked upon highly by the filming industry and found that the HD quality of the sense made a large impact on our film as a whole, as it made the final outcome seem very presentable and professional, giving the film an overall hollywood blockbuster look as we wanted. Especially in some of the conditions we wanted to film in the simpleness and features of the camera came in useful. Such as when we decided to film at darker times to give off the right setting for certain scenes the 10.2 megapixel feature gave the shot the right amount of exposure on our characters without adding to much of a focus on lighting, which could have resulted in a less focused image.

When the most important step of editing came into concern we decided to use the software Adobe elements premier, this software came into major use with all of the media we had filmed, recorded and photographed, meaning it had to be able to have a high quality in all of the areas in concern. Being one of the groups main editors i felt this software in particular had a very simplistic and easy layout of being able to edit our films audio and video material, giving us the option to look at our film on “Timeline” and “Sceneline”, meaning we could see all of our scenes and images on timeline, but i felt scene line was the most helpful due to its ability to show all elements of the film, being the sound effects, soundtrack, video content and titles, making it easier for the group to access all the content in one place making the time measurements a lot easier to handle.

We also used apple products within filming, the iPhone 6 was used when recording our behind the scenes footage showing our cast when filming and interviewing to hear both opinions and see the cast in action, we felt this was an effective way to get these certain topics recorded, as the iPhone 6 contains a 4K camera, meaning it has a very high quality focus on subjects and objects and is a lot easier for us to be able to get these sort of topics filmed without hassle, as having a phone on you and ready to film at any point of the day was relatively easy for the group. To release these videos we used two different websites, Youtube and Blogger. We needed to use youtube for two reasons one was to be able to post the video correctly and with the highest quality, but also to receive comments from the public due to the comment section below the video, therefore receiving opinions and questions from our hopeful audience, making it easier for our group to receive feedback. We then used blogger in order to reach another audience online also as we have been documenting the process we have been going through in full detail on blogger, our group thought it would be a good idea to also post some more footage to connect with viewers as a sense of internet marketing and getting to know the cast and crew.

Our last pice of software came from our main title at the end of the film, “the alley”, we decided against the typical boring thriller type style of font due to the eeriness that had occurred in our opening film and wanted to go with a skinny and rigid type font, and so used a “spookyfontgenerater”, selecting the font we wanted with simplicity, as we were able to view the sizes and colours of the fonts all online within a few pages, and was able to cut the choices down easily and pick the best suited font style for our film, only taking us a matter of a few days to all come to a majority decision on the chosen title.

Evaluation Targets

Chloe - have a look at charlotteclarkg321.blogspot.com and evepattersong321.blogspot.com to see examples of a grade evaluations.  What questions have they asked of themselves and their work that you can?  Note the level of analysis in their very strong approaches.

In your responses to your final production make sure you are clearly referring to choices and outcomes in an evaluative way - make sure you are addressing the areas outlined by me below:

What did you do? Explain a transition or effect you opted for in the editing process.  What effect did you achieve?  Explain how the choice you made was intended to make the target audience think or feel.  How does this show progression in your use of skills? Explain how this is better than your AS production's outcomes by linking to what you did in your portfolio last year.

These choices are really important for you to reflect on to show you fully understand how you have developed your skills - and make sure you evaluate the comments made by the test audience (the class) using specialist terminology.

We do not have long until the deadline, Easter Monday, for this final stage of your portfolio - so make sure you are pushing yourself and achieving the marks your efforts this year deserve!

Evaluation Activity Five ☮ ☮ ☮

Evaluation Activity Four ☮ ☮ ☮

The target audience for our film are older generation teenagers and people in their early twenties, a vital part of writing was wanting our audience to be able to relate and put themselves within the characters shoes, due to our characters being older teenagers and having certain parts of their lives conform to a normal teenagers life, such as the technology they use and some activities such as getting coffee, walking your dog, etc... we wanted these things to hook the audience onto the story as this is the type of things they either own or do these things, thats when we decided to subvert in areas such as murder, and uncovering a case. Teens favour films that will thrill and make them jump, with our film having some horror conventions, especially with our suffocation scene and how it quickly springs onto the screen, this would bring in some of the quality’s that would attract this type of audience.

Our group always wanted to use a 15 certificate rating, as we wanted to be able to use more violent scenes if we wanted, so we wanted to use this to our advantage by having characters of around their ages as they will be the most interested in the film. Male audiences of between 15-25 are interested in action, thriller and horror films, this is most likely due to the fact that young males enjoy playing video games, which usually contain violent and aggressive features such as assassins creed and the Grand Theft Auto franchise, this makes the male population seek the thrill that they get from these types of games without having to do anything but sit, watch and enjoy.

Female audiences between the ages 15-25 favour films of the comedy, romance and thriller genre, this is due to the stereotype that women tend to like love films more than horror due to them being to scared to watch that type of film, having said this some females do enjoy thriller films and we thought that to attract a wider female audience we would cast a number of female actors to make the fame audience feel empowered by the plot, making it cross boundaries and do things in films that women don’t tend to do as much as men.making the film as attractive to both genders as we can.

With our plot having the death occur early on, to shock our audience and try and figure out the reasons behind it, due to their age being similar to the casts it makes it seem as though they would be able to have a better chance of figuring out the plot, making older audiences seem less relatable to the film and possibly deter them from attending the film due to this reason.

Overall the target audience we chose i feel was a success as it enabled us to use certain scenes such as the murder scene which is more frightening to a younger audience, without preventing a smaller audience by going for a higher certificate rating such as an 18 certificate.

Evaluation Activity Two ☮ ☮ ☮

How Does Your Media Product Particular Social Groups ?

With our second protagonist, Ellie, I recognise the likeness between her and the character Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) in the Taken franchise, With my chosen shots that I have used to compare the two characters, the similarities between the two portray the same expressions of hurt and anger, both of which were due to the fact that someone who was close to them, wasn't safe, though this differs with our film as in this particular shot, Ellie doesn't realise yet that Tara is in danger, whereas Liam Neeson's character, Bryan, did know. Their costume although not entirely seen within the shot, the darker green and Neeson's black attire both portray the seriousness of the scene and overall the whole film, as it gives off the impression of their characters being in an important situation, being the saviours of the victim. As at the end of our opening a text is seen to have been received by Ellie which states help, causing her to be the sense of hope in reaching Tara and seeking her medical help. This links of Bryan Mills, as he too has to save his daughter from peril, due to her being kidnapped.
Obviously the main reason I chose this shot was due to both characters seen using mobile phone in these shots, showing that within thriller films, technology usually plays a large role within them, as spies are usually used within this film type heavily, also Bryan Mills being a spy.

Another character I cast similarities to our character Tara was “The Bride” in the Kill Bill franchise due to both the storyline of how both characters escape death by an attacker, which is also backed by the anonymity of the murderer but also with the reason why the attack occurred. Although the shot of which is use is in a black and white filter, we can clearly see that the Bride is wearing brightly coloured clothing that stands off of the black and bleak background, this causing the audience to gather that she is the protagonist, but also see her as weak at this point even though sh regains her strength and pursues her attackers one by one, Which our protagonist Tara shows glimpse of when the text message that is seen to have been received by Ellie, shows that our once weak portrayed protagonist who had apparently been suffocated to death, has now regained consciousness and perhaps not seeking help not medically, but revenge wise, however the audience perceives this message. Our protagonist also wears brightly coloured clothing which stands off the dead leaves on the floor that surround her, we wanted to show our protagonist on the floor to show that all hope was lost and that demean her character to an extreme extent.

Evaluation Activity One ☮ ☮ ☮

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In my first chosen frame I have decided to use our opening establishing shot of the forest location where we filmed the most important scenes of our film, the murder scene. We felt that using this type of shot would set the suspicious and creepy mood, as we wanted to show some sense of conforming to stereotypes and so the slow paced wood setting would trigger the audience to start suspecting a chilling and grim scene to occur within this location, this is due to the dark and murky colours of green and brown that instantly portray a dismal, negative mood. Using this location shows to be apart of the thriller conventions, as many thriller films use locations that show a sense of ambiguity, as we are shown a girl, our protagonist Tara, walking her dog as it seems, but is really the location of her murder. With the main amount of our footage being located in the forest, it therefore allows the audience to reach the conclusion that these scenes are extremely important to the plot. We used a panning shot, as we wanted to take full advantage of the whole scenery as all around us we could see that the forest was completely hard featured, and with also the future scenes that were to be shot were going to be in shot within the establishing shot, we believed this would be good to show a sense of continuity and when our main character would be retracing this position.

For my second frame I’ve used again another shot from the beginning of our film, which introduces our main protagonist, Tara, who seems an average teenager walking her dog, As we later learn further into the film we can gather that perhaps Tara was not just this and could exceed an average member of the public’s expectations, due to our main antagonist having a vendetta against Tara large enough to kill her. We decided to do a low angle shot here as we wanted to give the effect that our camera was intact the audience almost lurking in the background upon Tara, With there being a ditch below the bridge of which she crosses, we though this made her seem preyed upon, matched with the soundtrack in the background it also makes Tara appear targeted, this is due to the high pitched and slow paced music,Tara being alone apart from her small and defenceless dog, and the already tension building and eerie location. The character also is showing a negative mood, due to her expressionless face, so we can also gather that her mood may impact the route of the scene, meaning if she had been happier maybe she would have not been giving off the right signals to the audience who we want to be picking up clues from every frame. The craning, skinny and caliginous trees that loom above Tara as she walks pasts, matched with the rusted green cage like bars beside her, portrays the effect of Tara being enclosed and intimidated the more she walks into the forest. The increasing tension arising with this shot of showing the victimised appearance of Tara being closed into the forest, fits into the thriller convention of having a victim that needs to be saved, or in this situation the victim that leads to having an attack to which serves as a plot to the film as of finding who has done this to her.

The third frame I show is of our protagonist and antagonist in a closeup medium shot of the characters below the waist, where our antagonist is dragging Tara backwards in a violent and sudden way, This shot appears on screen incredibly quickly and leaves screen almost as quickly, which makes the audience question what just happened and what to pay close attention as to not miss anything, we wanted to show the bottom part of our character’s bodies as to remain the sense of obscurity and anonymity with our antagonist character, this shot showed very little of our antagonist due to their mise en scene being what is shown to be completely black, which urges in with our protagonists black trousers also. This again is a clue that audiences may have to guess quickly as we can see hanging out of our antagonists pocket, is a plastic bag, to which shortly they will be suffocating Tara with. This frame fits with the thriller theme as within the genre a lot of fast paced and high tension buildups occur when someone death may arise. This being the first time our antagonist comes into contact with the protagonist, and with them taking an aggressive attitude towards them physically, sets the correct mood of both the scene being of a high tensity and dark, but also making the audience feel negative emotions towards the attacker. Continuing with the entrapment theme, Tara seems trapped physically by our antagonist, but also by the barbed wired fence that can be seen towards the outskirts of the screen, showing that she has not escape from her assaulter, which again fits with the conventions of thriller films due to the sense of power and a lack of morals, that the villains should have before they even come into shot, which is shown within the frame as they have gotten the better of the protagonist by grabbing her forcibly, but also sneaking up behind Tara and succeeding in this way by cheating of sorts.

My fourth frame illustrates an extreme close up of our protagonist’s mouth whilst she is being suffocated by our anonymous attacker and antagonist. Whilst this is occurring we cross cut between scenes and shots, where Ellie our second protagonist is shown impatiently waiting for Tara, who we cross cut to whilst she is waiting for her to answer her phone, we can also hear signing tones whilst Tara is seen dying, which I believe added to the scene by making tensity of the scene increase, therefore causing the audience to wait in anticipation desperately wanting Tara to access her phone in order to save her life, which fits to the exhilarating thriller conventions that make the audience involve themselves in the scene mentally. With seeing our prop of a clear plastic bag so that we can see our victims face made the scene even more believable, and also can visualise the expression of her mouth and she drastically inhales and exhales in order to keep breathing, with our editing causing us to cross cut back to Ellie shows ultimately that Tara has no hope even though the audience drastically doesn't want this to be the case. With this being an extreme close up shot we see only our protagonists lower face and our antagonists hand grasped around Tara’s neck, making the audience focusing on the creases in the bag leading into Tara’s mouth that is attempting to breath faster and faster. The background of which we see little of, is blurred due to the fact that we wanted all focus to be on Tara, as this is a very intense and important scene to the full plot of the film. Though the background of which we can see is very dark and can just about make out the same, almost empty dark green and brown leaves hanging from skinny branches, which follows with our theme of creepiness and death, as the trees that are in our shots appear to be dying, just like our main protagonist.

The fifth frame which is shown above is of our second protagonist, Ellie, holding a modern smart phone with her coffee cup being seen next to her, in an extreme close up shot. I value this shot as very important to our film, as with our cast being of a younger age it is without question that technology plays a big role within their life due to modern day society, and with Tara fighting for her life at this time, the phone call attaches Ellie to her, giving the audience hope of survival if Tara can get to her phone, but instead is shown as a failure with Tara shown to have been defeated, and to make matters worse Ellie makes it spoken that she doesn’t want anything to do with Tara anymore, making it seem as if she won’t attempt to find Tara, which we wanted the audience to feel anxious and suspicious about, as to who will find her. This shot very much focuses on props, the coffee cup being in shot, we thought, would stick to continuity, and as Ellie’s face isn’t shown in this shot we still wanted it to be known who was calling Tara, who’s name appears on the phone’s screen whilst the call is in process. This sticks with the thriller conventions as technology is usually pays a huge role within this specific genre and we wanted to show how technology in todays society plays such a large role within the lives of younger people. Technology also is shown as a life saving tool on multiple occasions, When Ellie calls Tara which, if it had been answered, could have been answered by Tara and warned people, and also when Ellie receives a text message from who the audience should presume is Tara, which our audience can hope leads Ellie to Tara. This was shot outside of a Costa Coffee, we though that filming inside the shop would show too much of a sense of a warmness and safety, which we believed wouldn’t set the correct tension for what was going to be simultaneously happening to Tara, as Ellie would be dragged into the situation towards the very end of the opening. The weather outside was very gloomy and dull, and we were extremely happy with this as we didn’t want to film at a time when the weather would be too bright, which would lead to the presumption that it would be a happier and more positive scene. This is where we added the sound effects of a ringing dial tone which overlapped the soundtrack, which we felt heavily built tension as we heard this over both scenes of Tara being suffocated and Ellie waiting for Tara to answer.

In the sixth frame displays an extreme close up shot of our second protagonist, Ellie, leaving a voice message on Tara’s voicemail, whilst she is at the coffee shop and whilst Tara is being suffocated. I saw this to be an effective shot that definitely portrayed the anger and seriousness of the situation, as this is where Ellie leaves a voice message to Tara stating that their friendship is over and that she never wants Tara to talk to her again, we wanted to use this shot as it would show the expression within our actress’ face and showing her anger and distress of being stood up when we can presume that Tara was supposed to be there and hasn’t turned up. This fits the thriller type conventions here as we aimed for a warning such as Liam nelson’s in the Taken franchise, where the closeup is used to show his anger and fear within his facial expressions, when warning his enemy/ antagonist that he will find him and kill him, With Ellie being angry and upset here we wanted her visual to be similar to this.Again this was set outside the coffee shop, which again sticks to continuity and allows the audience to see that she was indeed waiting for Tara and due to her anger has clearly been stood up. We can also see the title of cast and crew entering the screen, we decided to use white text to stand off the screen as our colour scheme on the screen throughout is very dark and dismal and our text being white shows both clearly on screen and that hope is within the cast with white showing the sense of innocence and purity. We used a simple fading in and out of the text on screen with our titles as we wanted to bind to conventions of thriller by using a formal and standard font in a sophisticated transition to portray the maturity that we wanted to give off. Ellie’s mise en scene shows a dark green, which we felt stood off the screen enough as her hair which we though due to it being very bright, again it might show more of a happier mood, so we matched it with both a dull and dark green to balance the colours onscreen.

The seventh frame views a lifeless Tara laying eyes wide open on the ground after being suffocated by our antagonist, in a medium straight low angle shot. This shot shows the reveal of Tara as being defeated by the attacker, we used one of the plastic bags we used in the final shots to cover er face and have our antagonist abruptly tear off of Tara’s face showing her still and haunting as she looks into the camera, to make the audience feel as if she is looking directly at them. This fits to the thriller conventions of having a conventional character die after receiving enough camera time for the audience to take interest in them, leaving them in shock. Dead leaves surround our protagonist in this shot giving off a negative and unpleasant sight to the viewer, which is why we only leave this image on momentarily in order to show less connotations to horror than it would to thriller by still putting in some thrilling jumps. To show that a protagonist has died, we made sure to have our actress wear a brightly coloured piece of clothing, which is why we used a medium shot to show her bright coat overbalance the screen to show that ultimately good will overcome evil as always. The titles continue to roll over her dead body to show that life goes on even after her death within this film, for now. This again shows the thriller convention of frequent deaths and how certain lives that are taken and haven’t been given a lot of prevalence are quickly forgotten, or used as a source of plot for the remainder of the film.

The eighth frame shows our main protagonist, Tara, appearing dead on the floor whilst our main antagonist walks away pulling off her balaclava revealing her identity in a long shot. This is the shot we are fist introduced to our antagonist Rosemary, although not named within the film this is what she was casted as ( her name came due to meaning of being a devil child), her mise en scene immediately indicates that she is of a bad nature due to her wearing all black and showing me signs of red within her jacket which we wanted to indicate to blood, with the jacket having the red inside the jacket, it shows that she is hiding the blood that is on her hands. The characters mannerisms of simply flicking her hair back and continuing in the opposite direction to the lifeless body, with the character not seeming remorseful at all with her not looking back at all, which we wanted to do to show that she is a cold blooded character, who has no care for what she does, there was many directions we would have carried the character into, which we wanted to make the audience continuously wonder why she wanted to kill Tara. The difference we wanted to put in with this character is than usual thrillers, was that we give the audience her face as her identity is no weakness to her, but intact have to work out her personality and her vendetta against Tara and if she has one at all. The titles continue to roll on throughout our opening as we wanted to show breaks when she was being murdered as a sign of life goes on, which fits with the thriller conventions of multiple deaths within the typical thriller film. The setting of this shot was in the alley of which Tara is killed, this shot was mainly used as we wanted to show a full shot of the appearance of the murder location as the audience would not have seen the alley itself during the murder or when the camera focused on Tara’s face after she died. With the intimidating antagonist and setting gives off an overall chilling close to a scene and major plot point.

The final ninth frame shows an extreme close up of the hand of our main protagonist as it moves, again this i feel made a big impact on the source of plot that would have followed if we had carried on to make our film, our protagonist could have been revealed to have been many things such as a trained federal law agent, or even something inhumane, which may have resulted in a sic fi twist. Showing our protagonists hand would have made our audience wonder where this could have gone, in cases of who this girl is, what will she do, and does she know who done this to her and why. This fits to the thriller convention of mystery and the “whodunnit” theme that appears in many thriller film, even though the audience knows it would be a twist on a mystery style by trying to work our why they done it and if it was really them who wanted to do it. the setting was till in the alley due to the brown dead leaves that still surrounded her, the movement itself remained very weak which we wanted to gave the impression of her possibly making it but possibly not, which again fits with the mystery convention of thrillers. Her mise en scene here shows chipped nail varnish, which shows signs of stress due to chipping and a rough appearance, making her appear to have maybe been expecting this attack. The sound effects that came here was a boom sound effect to show that this was a major important part of the story and one of the many twists that would have happened if we had filmed a whole feature length movie.

Our title appears at the very end of our film after around 3 seconds on a black screen, where “THE ALLEY” comes in abruptly on a black background with white text, in a shaky font, that shows the mood of the entirety of the film which was meant to be thrills and jumps. The title of the film comes from the fact that what happens at the very beginning of the film is the main source of plot for the full length of the film, whether it would be starting at the end or working out why the antagonist killed Tara, and how they would go about solving this case. Our title was made to stick with the thriller conventions of simplicity, as many thriller films titles are this way in attempt to show the seriousness and focus on the feature itself rather than effects and giving too much away with this due to colours and their conventions.

Sound Effects being Excerised in Our Film ☮ ☮ ☮

Sound effects was always something that my group wanted to use within our film, due to our genre being a thriller we wanted to create obscurity and cryptic mood within the use of our soundtrack and sound effects. The following list is all the sound effects we used throughout our film, including when we used them and to what effect we want them to portray to the audience.

Boom Sound Effect
Link to sound effect:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-_JmN2rUNM
We used this sound effect multiple times, whilst over our title credit at the very end when our film title is displayed, at the beginning when our production credits are run and also when our reviving protagonists hand moves towards the end of our film. We wanted to use this sound effect as it installed both fear and linked with power, due to its loud and low pitched note, Using this meant that it would scare the audience with the sudden loudness we also though that it would show vital information when this sound effect played, thus using it when our protagonist is supposedly alive and when our film title is shown to let the audience gather on the important parts to the plot of this film. We believed that it would be foolish not to add in a thud like sound effect within a thriller film, as this is a main necessity to a thriller theme to hear the daunting sounds that would make the audience jump and scare.

Ringing and Voicemail Beep Tone
link to ringing sound effect:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzWKgOk7Xiw
Voicemail Beep tone:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8vDh_eIvmo
Our group really liked the idea of merging two scenes together audio wise, so with that in mind we decided to use a ringing tone throughout both shots when “Ellie” is calling “Tara’, and when Tara is being suffocated, we cut back and forth a couple of times in order to build the tension and with the ringing being quite loud, low pitched and slow the scene is then made to be shown more dramatic and tense on the audience. The voicemail beep we decided to choose was quite loud and high pitched, we decided on this as it showed a contrast to the tone of the ringing and therefore the audience could identify that both Ellie would be ending the friendship and most importantly that Tara was dead.

Heavy Breathing Sound Effect
link to breathing effect:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1MPgNGI1Ao
As our protagonist is revealed to have actually survived due to the text message that our other protagonist Ellie receives from the Tara, who was only briefly seen moving her fingers, we though that adding this towards the end of the film whilst over our movie title, it would show a vast contrast from her death as Tara had died due to suffocation so her deep breathing would show her trying to regain strength, showing that she is a powerful character due to her ability to regain consciousness, after being suffocated to death.

Time Managament For Deadline ☮ ☮ ☮

Filming Process Coming to an End

The deadline to hand in our opening scene to our films is on the 12th of February 2016, Meaning we have three lessons left to complete all editing and blogging within our time that we have left.

Tuesday 9th February
In this time the most vital part of my time will go into making sure our films is perfect, which will include the soundtrack most importantly I want all sound levels to correspond with what's going on verbally and action wise when on screen. My main focus when it comes to editing revolves around making sure continuity and genuine and professional looks are being given off from this film making it seem as "Hollywood" as we possibly can. We will achieve this by making sure that we have made the best possible decisions by acknowledging our teacher's guidance and input, but most importantly making sure within ourselves that this film represents all the hard work and effort we have put into the film.

Thursday 11th February
With this being the last full lesson our group has to make sure the film is complete and ready to hand in, again I will be perfecting and re watching the film over and over to make sure that everything is perfect, although I would like the film to be completed on this day as continuing to edit on Friday would show to much pressure on having everything done by the end of that class. My entire attention will be on the film throughout that lesson and will be completed for Friday.

Friday 12th February
With this being the final day before we have to hand in our film, I will be making sure that my blog is also perfected having my opening analysis' in the correct number so that I have everything completed for when they will be marked. Also trying to get as many interviewing videos filmed within that lesson and put onto my blog, to show as much of the progress and detail we made within our film, including possibly more evidence of what we do in class.

What We Get Up to in our Lessons and Our Editing Process- Timelapse ☮ ☮ ☮

The first part of this video we demonstrate what we achieve in our lessons this mainly is perfecting our blogs and having our main priority focus on editing and perfecting our film, but we also give ourselves the time to document our process as we continue into having our film progress. For our software when editing we use adobe premiere elements, Our main focus when using this software is getting our soundtrack on cue with our different scenes, meaning when we suddenly flash onto our protagonist being suffocate we needed our soundtrack when there's a sudden and dramatic thud, to line up with the suffocation scene as soon as it comes onto screen. This is what you can mainly see during our time lapse, also in that section of the video you can see me adjusting the sound bars along this was because we were using two different parts of the song and different sections of the film, so I wanted the two clips to line up so when we finished one clip we wouldn't be able to tell a difference when the next soundtrack clip came into play.

Filming Schedule ☮ ☮ ☮

With there only being two main locations for our opening film sequence, we wanted to remain in continuity with the natural lighting and weather, so with this we wanted to try and get all of our filming completed in the same day as the location we were in, so in total we had two days of filming. Our costa shoot was quite quickly filmed as we only had one actress in focus for the scenes in this location, with it taking a total of 20 seconds in total of the full sequence. Following is the first days schedule:
Day 1
14:00- wide shot walking shot past Costa Coffee
14:15-long shot walking shot into Costa Coffee
14:25-extreme close up of hand on phone shot
14:30-medium shot sitting at table waiting for answer shot
14:40-closeup shot of leaving voicemail shot
14:55-high angle medium shot of hanging up phone.

The second day of filming took a much longer amount of time due to the shots taking up the majority of the sequence, the amount of times that we could mess up shot couldn’t be a lot at all as we wanted to film at a time when the weather would be murky and dull to show themes of threat and creepiness. There were difficulties getting some shots to line up with the murdering scene and with this being the most vital and powerful scene in concern we wanted to get it perfect so this took a longer amount of time. Following is the second days schedule:
Day 2
12:00-long shot walking up and across the bridge shot.
12:05-low angle shot of walking off the bridge and down grassy footpath
12:15-medium shot antagonist hiding behind tree preying upon dog walker
12:25-grabbing scene wide shot and close up shot
12:40- strangling scene for mouth and nose extreme close up
13:00-conversation between antagonists:multiple camera shot types
13:30-friend receiving text from protagonist

Our Production and Studio Company Titles ☮ ☮ ☮

For our groups production and studio titles we wanted to show a professional and individual look in order to make it appear as though it is from a hollywood type picture. With this our first production credit we use is of the grand canyon, we thought this showed a substantial and powerful look that would show the image of these themes onto our film, we also used a black and white filter to show a raw effect, then blurred the image into colour. We decided to call our studio company “ Red Canyon Films”, we also used the colour red as both the canyon itself is a very red and brown mixed shade, but also red connotes fear and blood, which will link into the murder that takes place within our opening scene.
But also changing having a smaller image with the majority of the screen being dominated by black will show a sinister sort of mood. The transition of the image itself is very dark and slow, with the text fading in and out at a slow pace also, to show a more threatening mood through out. The text we used was also aimed to have a serious and formal mood attached with it, as we wanted it to be all bold and in capitals to show that it was an important title and to set the mood for our film that it would not be humorous but more dangerous and of its intended genre thriller.

Our production company “Vivid Productions” holds a tigers image whilst on its hind legs spraying water with its paws, we really liked this as it showed a still action shot, with both a majestic and dangerous animal which would connote our film, but also the action of the tiger could be seen as menacing as it seem to be growling and showing large malicious teeth that could be used a destructive weapon, this again links to our film of vicious and murderous themes. With the transitions we used on the image we wanted to show some link to the name of the production company and in so made one two versions of the image, one being blurred and less impacting and the other being very clear and “vivid”, which after the transition was made brings in our bold title of
“ VIVID PRODUCTIONS” , we chose again to have a serious theme to the font of the title, to which we had made bolder in order to make a more thriller theme to it and making it bolder made stand off the page more.

Kill Bill Vol.1 Opening Analysis ☮ ☮ ☮

With the Kill Bill movies being part of my favourite films (as both volumes enact one film) of all time, I really wanted to include it in someway in both my blog page and in my groups film. The major reason why I hold this film in such a good light is due to the main protagonist (the bride) being depicted as incapacitated during the opening scene, showing the bride crying and covered in what appears to be blood due to cuts and stains on her face and the menacing black and white filter casted on the screen, then transforming into a vigorous and purposeful killing machine on the rampage to seek out vengeance on who caused her brutal beating and intended killing shown in the opening scene. With this I wanted there to be a powerful female cast especially within the main protagonist and antagonist, this is why when our antagonist attempts to murder our protagonist we chose suffocation, as this is the type of death that the attacker would have to think about it can take multiple minutes to suffocate to death this would then outline a true evilness with her. Also after when our main protagonist is apparently killed through suffocation she is then shown ever so slightly moving to show a sense of hope that she may regain strength, and although our audience will never find out what our character is really like and why she was attempted to be killed, we want our audience to constantly think about it and come up with theories, as even though we have not filmed a full film we know what our full plot would be.

The scene opens to a black screen with a quote stating “Revenge is a dish best served cold”, Heavily insinuating a cold blooded act that has a consequence, making the audience feel slightly uneasy as theme of violence will come to mind immediately. As the credit roll on a black screen we hear the non-diegetic sound of a woman breathing heavily, making the audience believe that the woman we hear is in distress and possibly harmed, thus rolling on the theme of violence. The first image flashes onto screen in black and white edited filter showing a high angle closeup shot of a woman with blood, sweat and tears covering her face on the floor, defenceless she lies in a pool of blood, making her appear weak and pathetic. The now diegetic sound of her heavy breathing and crying show that she is grittily harmed, making the audience wonder why she is in this pain and if so who has done this to her.
The close up shot I believe is to really take in the pain and fear the unidentified woman expresses, but also to conceal her whereabouts and the possible people that surround her, making the film show hints of mystery and having to unravel the story of who, what, where, when and why, making the audience think and come up with their own theories within the first 20 seconds. The woman’s mise en scene shows her only from the neck upwards showing us little about her character and who she may be, but we see a bloodied and creased view hidden behind the now supposed bride’s blood stained hair, giving off the impression of a wedding, making the audience feel that the location therefore may be in a church, and if this was a wedding where is the groom is he dead?, and the guests are they also harmed?

Following this we cut to a straight low angled shot of who appears to be a man due to the style of boot and trouser, walking slowly towards the bride, the slow diegetic creaking of the floor boards as he walks, show a sinful and fiendish sense to the character, as anyone who would normally witness this scene of a grievously harmed woman would rush to their aid, but the slow paced walker is then questioned by the audience to have been the attacker in this heinous crime. As the man approaches the bride we see her face is filled with fear and anger, when the anonymous and suspicious gentleman reaches the bride we see his foot come into alignment with her shoulder, giving off the effect that he is towering over her, in a way to belittle and show power and dominance over her. This is when we hear the first line of dialogue in the picture “Do you find me sadistic?”, This then both confirms that this miscreant has enacted grievous bodily harm to the bride but also that he possible enjoys it due to his word “sadistic” making the audience dislike the antagonist even more.

Still yet to hear the bride speak, we see the the antagonists hand approach shot with a handkerchief in his hand revealing his name is Bill, Then making the audience reach the conclusion through the title of the film, the quote at the beginning of the film and the name displayed by the criminal as “Bill”, that this man is now a target for his crime against the bride but we are still yet to find out who will be evening this woman. Bill then tries to wipe the bride’s face, showing a sense of endearment that maybe he knows this woman previously from this date, but also shows a sign of cockiness and mocking to this action that he is the only hope she has to remain alive and to torture her on the fact on whether she will stay alive or not. As Bill continues to talk her mocks the bride that he “could fry an egg on her head right now, if I wanted to”, by telling the bride “if I wanted to” shows his feeling of complete control over the brides body and therefore life.

Due to Bill’s speech we can tell he has been a comrade of the bride as sorts due to Bill saying phrases such as “kiddo”, then also making the audience believe that he is considerably older than her, making thoughts of fatherly figures as this is the type of pet names a father would say to his child, although this could be a way of showing that the bride is a possession of his like a child to their father. Through Bill’s miss en scene we can argue he has wealth to his name due to the clunky jewellery and bracelets we can see on his hand, showing he could be an authoritative and powerful figure throughout the film, and due to us not seeing his face, that his crater could hold a charlie’s angels type of influence on him as the character charlie had, an authoritative figure with all control but never being seen, only heard. Leading to another assumption that Bill could possibly be the brides employer, but in a slightly different way than a normal job under these circumstances.

From when Bill had previously stated about the brides thoughts on him as a sadistic, Bill follows on from that statement to say “ I like to believe you’re aware enough even by now, that there is nothing sadistic in my actions”, showing that this isn’t the first time that Bill has performed an acute volatile acton to someone and with his saying “even by now” that the bride is aware of this and should believe he takes no pleasure in harming her. Though seconds later contradicts himself by saying “maybe towards those other jokers” showing he took pleasure in killing the others which could be a reference to people also there with her that he has killed, showing that perhaps Bill didn’t agree with this supposed wedding that was taking place, he then continues to say “but not you” to which he gently strokes his finger against her cheek, illustrating to the audience that there is perhaps feelings of a loving matter in a more sexual way rather than when there is in a friendship or a family sense. Thus showing that Bill is possibly in love with the bride and has taken on the style of if I can’t have you no one can.

As Bill stands upwards and as we hear Bill fumbling around, as his last utterance states as “ This is me at my most masochistic”, showing that Bill will take pleasure from his own pain of killing her, showing the audience that through his heartbreak of the bride attempting to marry someone other than him, his humiliation of the bride trying to go through with this marriage has caused him to possibly look foolish to others and will take on killing the bride to gain pleasure by inflicting grief onto himself by killing his love. In an attempt to change his mind the bride speaks her first line of dialogue of “ Bill it’s your baby”, to which she is quickly interrupted by the non-diegetic sound of gunshot that appears to have been fired by Bill at the brides head as we see blood splatter around her head and her eyes shut instantly, causing the audience to believe that the bride has been killed, almost instantly after the gunshot is heard we hear the non diegetic sound track being played of the song “Bang Bang(my baby shot me down)” by Nancy Sinatra, listening to the lyrics we hear that this fits perfectly into what just happened, and also confirms that they were in fact associated with each other in a relationship that would be deem more than friends.

As the black screen was cut to immediately after gunfire we see the credits role again, as the credits come to a close an image then again appears with a black and white edit, of a figure, supposedly the bride, lying in front of a white back ground, as we only see her silhouette as she lie there motionless, appearing to be dead, giving the impression of the bride lying in a coffin in almost complete darkness, then fading to black, the audience are left to believe hat someone will come to avenge her death, but they would be wrong...

Film Inspiration: Psycho - Alfred Hitchcock ☮ ☮ ☮

After stealing $40,000 from her employer to run away with her boyfriend, Marion Crane, gets caught in a rainstorm when on her getaway and seeks refuge in the bates hotel, where she meets Norman Bates, a man who has a difficult relationship with his mother and shows an eeriness toward Marion which she is soon to pick up on.

The film "Psycho"(1960) had a major impact in our final film, it stood as an inspiration to our thriller as we wanted to show a viscous murder, but without actually showing it. We thought watching the murder scene in Psycho would definitely help us with it. We wanted our film to be as different and individual as possible, so we decided on having a suffocation murder, but to avoid having to raise our age certificate rating, we wanted to show our victims face in two parts in different shots.

We took Psycho's murder scene of two parts, the first was having the attacker seen but not identified lurking in the background in a slow and venomous way, so with Norman bates shadow seen moving slowly towards Marion show curtain we had our antagonist be seen also creeping onto our protagonist behind a tree wearing black and a mask to conceal their identity, plot wise we didn't take anything from psycho in the sense of character personality, our antagonist, unlike Norman Bates, is shown to be completely sane, but we don't reveal the cause of the murder early as we wanted it to be shown as a large source of mystery to the film and would have been revealed toward the very end of a full feature picture.

With the killing part of the scene in psycho we thought compared to pictures nowadays, Psycho didn't show complete authenticity within this crucial part of the scene. For example the knife when shown after Norman rapidly reaching to stab Marion it would show the knife hanging in front of her, So in this case we wanted to show a more realistic death but keep the same sort of feel to the scene in Psycho by not seeing our protagonists face completely covered by the plastic bag, so in different shots shows her upper part of her face in shot struggling for air then would cut to the bottom part of her face showing her mouth completely inhale the bag.

Like in Psycho we reveal our protagonist to be dead when we see her lying on the floor with her eyes wide open, We done this to install fear towards the audience, as we also wanted to have some horror themes in our film as we initially wanted to make a horror film but we didn't believe we were going to be scary enough to produce a successful film. We really liked the idea of the panning outward of the eye like in Psycho but we believe we would not have pulled off a steady shot whilst also keeping our actress from blinking or producing water running from her eye.

Targets for next Year: Crash Zoom ☮ ☮ ☮

With my decision to continue with media next year I have set myself the target when filming to use more interesting and fun shots that would portray an emotion without even having to have an experienced actor in shot. This I believe can be done using the crash zoom shot, to which expands in the width an the camera draws closer inwards. This type of shot shows a hit to the character or object in focus, whether it be that the character has suddenly though of the solving answer to a case or has forgotten something it shows a sense of concentration that suddenly hits the character. With an object it may be due to it being the thing that they need in order to achieve victory, or something that may be about to fall/lost.

The use of the crash shot that I like is that it can be used for many genres. It can be used for a comedic use and not have as much atmosphere with it, I believe this is because of the use of soundtrack, the less or more tense the soundtrack over the shot the more the audience can see the emotion portrayed in the scene. I could even use the shot in a romance film, as the use of the shot could be shown in a scene where the couple either notice each other across a crowed room, showing the love at first sight cliche, or when they realize they are in love with each other before running into each other's arms.

The crash shot that i have used in order to show the crash shot is within the movie clip of the film "Jaws"(1975), The use of the shot in this scene is to show the sudden acknowledgment of a shark attack in the sea, with an already weary character who is on the lookout for this situation. In the background we can see the landscape widening and coming more into focus, showing that the man has identifies the vivid blood in the ocean which is where we hear the non-diegetic sound of dark and fast paced music to show panic and fear not just with the man but also for the rest of the beach and the victim of the attack.

I believe that using a shot like this would expand my skills and make whatever film or scene that I film have more of a professional look to it, whether it be of a comedy or serious genre. In order to do this i would have to research tutorials into what equipment i would need to carry out this shot in the most successful and professional way.

The Voices Opening Analysis ☮ ☮ ☮

The Voices (2014) focuses on mentally unstable Jerry, who hears his dog and cat talk to him and converses with them, who by accident kills a coworker who he covers up and keeps her head in the fridge which also starts to talk to jerry. Jerry must try and remain on top of his work and make sure none discovers his new murdering ways.

The scene opens to a dreary and dull establishing shot, where we see dark green skinny trees hanging lankily over an empty stained grey road where in the background in the distance we see a power plant releasing black smog into the air, We are told exactly where the scene is being set in a town called "Milton" which is shown on a brown scarped and tarnished sign on the right hand side of the camera, setting dull and dreary mood to the audience making it seem as though it is the type of town that goes along without having anything interesting happen there, as on the sign it states that they have a population of 504 people.

The non diegetic sound of a slow paced but somewhat upbeat guitar based track starts to play, where we then cut to the power plant we previously saw, with multiple towers blowing black smog from their tops in a low angled shot, making the towers seem bold and powerful both making the audience view it as a dominating part of Milton and also as a polluting and boring operation. Following this we  cut to a dark lighted and dreary factory where we see a bright pink truck saying "Milton-fixture and faucet" on the back of the truck. The mise en scene of the truck show that having an illuminating colour in the dreary and low lighted setting is an attempt to bring some joyous type of setting to their town and to possible customers that they would want to attract. The factory itself was also rusted and unclean in parts with puddles on the floor, making it seem as though the town doesn't have good weather in their area and it rains often.

The opening credits start to roll and we see this on a black background with a ginger cartoon cat watching as a cartoon knife stabs the back background making blood spill onto the surface, by having this threatening and what should be frightening scene in a cartoon theme, makes it seem quite childish and makes it seem as though the person who is stabbing and causing the blood is quite like a child in this way and could see it as a game, also with it being matched with a light hearted song makes the film set a satirical type of mood, that means it could take some dark turns along the course of the film.

We then cut to a more light setting inside, where the camera is in a medium close up shot of blue and silver cables and wires that seem still like an eye sore panning downwards to show a male character wearing a bright pink jumpsuit just like the truck, showing we are now inside the factory. We then see an extreme closeup of someones had sticking on a sticker to a bath, then cutting back to the black screen with the cat walking across this time with a saw sticking through the background with blood spilling again. This gives off the impressions that one, the ginger cat is heavily involved in the possibility that people are getting hurt and two that this will happen on more than one occasion. The camera then cuts again to the factory workers building and working on a bath in a bright lighting, making it seem happier and more of a lively setting than both outside and on the credits, making the impression that all the bad things that occur will be behind closed doors.

We then see the edit of polystyrene falling in a slow motion medium shot into a bath in order to package it in its box presumably for shipping. Then quickly cuts again to the black screen where this time a heavy knife appears to slam down and blood sprays everywhere also onto the cats paw to which he licks off meaning that this character isn't bothered by murder but intact thrives off of it.

The scene is again cut onto two workers boxing up a bath where the camera remains for a while,, giving the male character whose face we can see prevalence and makes the audience believe that this is one of the most important characters in the film due to the amount of time he has been given in shot so that the audience can concentrate on him. We then cut to an over the shoulder shot of a different staff worker that is working on a computer printing out bills of order and we see a close up of a worker scanning them, but them immediately go back to the character previously shown working a device that carried the boxes around in a wide shot, making the audience realise he's supposedly just like all the other workers there, but paired with the opening credits makes them wonder if he is all he seems to be.

The Dark Knight Rises Opening Analysis ☮ ☮ ☮

The Dark Knight (2008) is set in Gotham city, where innocent civilians suffer under the evil torment of terror like villain the Joker, Bruce wayne must maintain his secret identity as the city's saviour "Batman", whilst trying to overcome the twisted ways of the heinous antagonist.

The scene opens to a disguised individual wearing a stained and creepy looking clown mask in a medium close up shot holding a lethal weapon which he shoots a rope arrow out of a building window, the camera then tracks to a high angle shot making the individual seem belittled even though he appears to be committing a crime,Through his mise en scene the audience can gather that this individual is possibly carrying out a crime and is quite a dark natured person due to their dark clothing which connotes evil and fear, which is trying to be given off towards the audience making them feel weary of the character, as also the clown mask he is wearing is a huge phobia within society for many people, so it may seem that they want to frighten the people that they will come into contact with that may put a strain on their plan and by wearing this style of mask will cause them to do what they say due to their frightening appearance. The non-diegetic sound of a soft violin note being played continuously, builds the tension of the scene and makes the audience wonder what pace is going to be set as at the moment the situations seems quite calm and slow.

We then see a medium shot of a hunched over male from a back shot, showing that he is holding also a clown mask, also his mise en scene shows that he is wearing a suit which subverts to his stereotype of being involved in crime that he would be scruffy and poor, he is also holding a large bag which being paired with the mask, the audience would describe as a robbery possibly. Suddenly we hear the diegetic sound of a car screeching and pulling up beside the man to which he quickly gets into the car. Due to the fact that the camera focused on the assumed antagonists for so long his character got prevalence, which makes the audience presume he could be an important essential to the groups plan.  This then sets a fast paced rhythm, suggesting that now the robbery is about to take place. This is where the non- diegetic sound of a fast paced violin soundtrack which starts to build the tension.

We then see the two individuals at the start of the film appear to be sliding across the rope at a high angle shot, which then turns into a birdie view which shows the distance the two robbers are from the ground, which appears tone in a busy city as the buildings tower up and seems very crowded. We see the two clowns land safely on top of the building and we then cut back to the car to which the unidentified clown got into. Here we hear the first dialogue of the film were we see the two drivers at the front of the car who picked up the clown who is in the back, discussing the plan about shares of presumably the money that they will make from their crime. The clown who was given a lot of camera time initially remains quiet in the back and is shown preparing his gun, which sets a theme of violence and danger. The two men then state that "the guy who organised this" shouldn't get a share as he's sat backhand not helped toward the scheme, and identify him as "the joker", to which the other clowns on on top of the roof are involved in parallel action where the camera cuts to them where they are  shown in a medium shot discussing who the joker is, they state that he wears war paint to scare people. which gets the audience to try and build an image of the character in their head as this must be a very influential character and is being kept hidden to build tension of to who he is and what he looks like.

The camera then follows the three clowns at a low angle shot as they walk up stairs towards the bank, which puts them at a powerful and superior position due to their weapons and frightening and intimidating appearance. We see the clowns run into the bank shooting their guns upwards in order to warn the hostages that they are real and they're not afraid to shoot them which makes the hostages panic and scream while the clowns yell at them to get onto the ground, during this time we hear the soundtrack which is a fast paced and high pitched track which set the rhythm of the scene as high tension and dangerous. We see a man in his office appear to be calm and hide from the clowns. The camera is constantly tracking around the bank to fit in with the rhythm of the scene of danger and quickness.

We then cut to the two clowns on top of the building who now appear to be trying to disarm the alarm system, in a close up shot where we see the other clown out of focus behind the clown disarming the system holding a gun to the back of his head unbeknownst to the clown in front of him. Again we go back to the bank where the silent but well concentrated on character is setting up the hostages with grenades, giving the impression that if the hostages cause any trouble then the clowns will blow them up. Then cutting back to the two clowns where now the man has finished disarming the alarm and the clown behind him shoots him, making the audience believe that there will be a bigger cut for the rest of the clowns if he kills him off, this shows a theme of distrustful characters, making the audience believe that the characters in the film will show betrayal often.

The clown then makes his way down the stairs in a medium high angle shot, showing him as a guilty ad untrustworthy character where he approaches a large dark green vault, the colour of the vault shows it as a sign of dirty and dark money making it seem as a dangerous and possibly stupid idea to steal money from this bank. The man we previously saw who was in his office is seen in a close up shot taking a large gun out, The camera then cuts to one of the clowns beating the security guard in a medium shot to which we can see the man's office window smash to pieces from the gun which hits the clown and causes him to collapse, the other to clowns are seen in a straight low angle as they quickly slide to the floor cowering behind the desks as the Man who seems very authoritative and dominant screams "Do you have any idea who you are stealing from?" which makes the audience question whether this man is an antagonist or protagonist as this statement makes him seem dangerous. As he shoots a second clown he runs out of ammunition, making the mysterious clown who has yet to speak, jump out from behind the desk and shoots the man multiple times, the man is seen fall in a wide shot which we can see his mise en scene is a well tailored business suit making him appear to be a respectable and intelligent man.

We then see a close up of the mysterious clown appear to look at the now powerless man as weak but yet still confident and not fearful of the clowns. We then cut to the clown who was tasked with breaking into the vault where he confirms to one of his accomplice's that he killed the "alarm guy" for one less share, here we see again once he has broken into the safe he is shot by another clown, where we see him rush into the vault and start to bag up money. Again cutting to the inside the bank and there are multiple bags of money laying behind the now leader of the operation the mysterious clown is then threatened by another clown who is paranoid that he has been assigned to have been killed, but is shortly ran over by a bus after the mysterious clown says his first line "no, I'm supposed to kill the bus driver", the bus driver crashes through the building and help load the money into the bus and he then is shot by the mysterious clown showing him standing alone as the last clown making the audience feel very curious about who this clown is.

After being confronted by the shot man, he removes his mask where he states "I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you, stranger", Revealing himself to fit the profile of the described "Joker" character which shows him in a close up shot, showing him in smeared clown makeup showing him with a white face dark eyes and smeared red smile which shows deep scarring around his mouth, with greasy green hair which makes him seem scary and makes the audience wonder how he got the scars, and immediately associates him with danger and evil but for the time being feel some sort of connection to the character and somewhat want him to make an escape from the scene.

After placing a grenade in the mans mouth the joker walks away from the man getting into the bus with purple string trailing behind him ready to set off the grenade when he gets to a certain distance, the string pulls the grenade to explode but instead of a real bomb, shows it as a smoke bomb, then revealing the school bus that the joker makes his escape on pull out of the bank and join a line of school buses in a long shot in order to blend in and make a hidden escape.
